Maintaining excellent oral health means more than simply brushing and flossing every day. Practicing good oral hygiene at home is a must, but you also should see your dentist for routine dental exams and teeth cleanings.

Dental exams and teeth cleanings are preventive dental care services we offer to help you maintain a healthy, beautiful smile. We recommend most patients visit us for check-ups every six months, but some patients may need more frequent appointments, like those with gum disease.

Dental Exams and X-rays

Your dentist performs routine dental exams and yearly x-rays to check your mouth for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancers, and other potential problems. Examining your mouth allows us to pinpoint any issues and provide the treatment you need to maintain optimal oral health. Dental exams and x-rays help us catch dental decay or disease in the early stages, allowing us to avoid extensive or costly treatment.

Professional Teeth Cleanings

Of course, at-home oral hygiene is necessary for protecting your smile against cavities and gum disease, but even the most diligent brushers still miss cleaning certain areas of the mouth. Only a dental professional, like your dentist or hygienist, can thoroughly remove plaque buildup and tartar from your teeth. We use special instruments to gently clear away signs of harmful bacteria and plaque, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Not to mention dental cleanings help combat bad breath and staining from foods and beverages.

We also offer periodontal therapy for patients with gingivitis and gum disease. Root scaling and planing is a deep cleaning method that involves removing plaque and bacteria below the gumline, specifically in the gum's pockets. Root scaling cleans the tooth and pockets, and planing smooths the gums, sealing them firmly around the teeth. Scaling and root planing helps many patients manage and improve their gum health.
