Countless patients use complete or partial dentures to restore their smiles' function and appearance. Some patients may feel nervous about the appliance shifting or falling out of their mouth when considering dentures. But with modern dentures, you have nothing to fear. Here are some common types of dentures and how they can improve your oral health and appearance.

#1 Partial Dentures

Partial dentures support remaining teeth and fill in gaps from tooth loss. A partial denture clasps to remaining teeth, securing them in position and using the teeth's deep roots. Partial dentures can also anchor dental implants.

#2 Complete Dentures

Complete dentures rely on a thin layer of saliva among the gums, jaw bone, and denture. A complete denture depends on the jaw's natural shape to hold them in place, though zinc-free denture adhesive offers additional security when speaking, smiling, chewing, and more.

Because complete dentures don't have natural teeth for support, they may require a bit of practice before feeling comfortable and a natural part of your smile.

#3 Lower Suction Dentures

One of the newer technologies in the denture world is the lower suction denture. This type of denture is designed for the lower jaw and relies on suction to keep them in place. Lower suction dentures are suitable for those who have lost their lower teeth and desire a secure fit without dental implants.

#4 Dentures Over Implants

Perhaps the most secure dentures are dentures over implants, as these are surgically placed, so your dentures attach to the anchor points. Dentures over implants drastically reduce the chances of slippage or shifting, and they completely restore your smile's function, appearance, and comfort. Another benefit to these long-lasting dentures is that they stimulate the jawbone, thus reducing the rate of bone shrinkage or resorption.
