When a dental emergency hits you, the type may vary widely, but one thing most hold in common is that they hurt. Whether it's a sharp pain from injury or a chronic infection's deep, throbbing bite, most of us don't seek emergency dental care before the pain becomes unbearable and interferes in our daily lives.

At Loftus Family Dentistry, we understand how dental emergencies come out of the blue, so we've developed treatment priorities designed to get you back to life as soon as possible. For patients in North Dallas, Addison, Richardson, Carrollton, Plano, Farmers Branch, and Hebron, we'll take care of your dental emergency through these three steps.

Priority 1 – Relieve Pain

Pain is often a debilitating experience, and a toothache or dental trauma can have its own unique and intolerable edge. So when you contact our emergency dental clinic, we work to lessen your pain and help stabilize your condition. We also recommend steps you can take while you wait to come in for your appointment.

Many people associate visits to the dentist with tooth pain and sometimes mistakenly attribute that to their visit as if their pain would go away if they didn't visit our office. So rather than cause discomfort, your dentist has the solution.

Priority 2 – Treat the Underlying Issue

While providing relief is a good start, we also need to treat your oral health issue, of which pain is only a symptom. Therefore, we will provide a complete exam to assess your teeth and gums and find the problem accurately. Though toothache is a general term, it may reveal one or more of the following issues we need to treat.

  • Broken tooth or crown
  • Lost tooth filling
  • Avulsed or knocked-out tooth
  • Inner tooth infection or root infection
  • Abscess on gums or advanced periodontitis

We may treat many of these at your emergency dental appointment with effective treatments like root canal therapy for deep tooth infections or a new tooth-colored filling to replace a lost one.

Priority 3 – Recovery and Restoration

In many emergency dental situations, you may also need a long-term restoration, especially when lost or missing teeth occur. Again, we can help you with a treatment plan that gives you options. For example, for one or missing teeth, we can provide a dental bridge or even a dental implant, whatever meets your needs and smile goals best.
